This week Therapy brings about a return to our house music history to celebrate our 3rd Birthday in deep and jacking style with, three epic peak sets from DJ Freestyle, Ben Kelly and the Therapist at the centre of all this madness, Adrian Matyear.
DJ FREESTYLE ::
DJ Freestyle arrives at Therapy with a resume as long as his lanky arms, which seem to have been cut from the grand design for the specific purpose of warping, folding, and manipulating musical instruments and audio console equipment to elicit a physical human response.
Completely and deeply involved in music, in every possible corner of him, Freestyle has explored hip hop, funk, disco, soul, garage and house music, treading a path in the outer frontiers of the modern club sound that many, many other DJs and producers would later follow.
From his hometown of Brisbane, Freestyle is regarded an experienced hand, from laying out the foundations in the city’s earliest clubs, multiple state DMC titles, to multi genre adaptability across a long list of residencies including Alhambra, Family’s lounge, Press Club, Jade Buddha, appearances at Sundae and Therapy, international set up duties such as his famed Miguel Migs support at Monastery, and his ‘jack-the-tripper’esque warmup for James Curd last November in Uncle amongst numerous others.
Internationally, Freestyle is regarded a leading player in the house scene, with 40 vinyl releases on forward thinking labels Guesthouse/ Guess Who, Icon Recordings, Brique Rouge, Grab Recordings, Om Records, Shifted Music and so on and so on. His prolific and quality output regularly catches the attention of house luminaries Mark Farina, DJ Mes, JayJ, Chuck Love et al. On both the production front and behind the wheels in the club, Freestyle is respected worldwide for his skilled and genuine people moving abilities.
BEN KELLY ::
Ben Kelly brings about a fresh approach to house music, searching the darker corners of jacking house and minimal techno. Weekly skirmishes on Sydney’s frontline at Home, Yu, Tank, Candy’s Apartment, Le Panic and The Bunker, serve to expose a wider audience of dancers to his explorations of the sound at his well received residency at Moulin Rouge.
Previous visits to Brisbane have seen him infiltrate Alhambra with a deep and jacking bag, and GPO with a more bouncing tech sound. Kelly is noted for his creative mixing and reediting for a more personal approach to the dancefloor, and brings with him an eagerness to shake out the club in a complete and efficient manner.
ADRIAN MATYEAR ::
Adrian Matyear is becoming a regarded regular fixture in Brisbane’s clubs. A dedicated and deep involvement in house music, through residencies in Family’s Uncle, Press Club, Jade Buddha, appearances at Sundae and Future Classic, and most notably, responsible for this every-other-weekly house institution Therapy.
A dedicated vinyl collector and musical explorer, with a developed jacking house and deep techno bag, and tight mixer control, Adrian masterminds the Therapy experience into the early hours.
Joining DJ Freestyle, Ben Kelly and Adrian Matyear for this special jacking deep house hustle, are Adam Swain and Dan Abbott opening the club up in the deep space of disco, ambient, trip hop and broken beat, with Shannon L Marshall and Nat Monaghan setting up the early dancers with hypnotic and tribal deep grooves. Get amongst our special Therapy 3rd Birthday this Friday 6th March.
